PAULÍNA FIALKOVÁ

I have always been extremely energetic and lively so the choice was clear – my tremendous energy had to be channeled into sport. So when I was 8, my father brought me to my first biathlon training. That was the moment when I fell in love with this sport and this love still lasts. I started to train as a member of biathlon club Čierny Balog. A year later, my younger sister Ivona discovered biathlon, too. Our parents have always been our greatest fans and when we were in the junior and the youth category they supported us also financially. Shortly before I started attending grammar school I joined junior training group of Anka Murínová and changed the club – I became a member of biathlon club Osrblie. After the grammar school I studied law at the Matej Bel University and few months ago I obtained Master´s degree. In 2015 I became a professional athlete representing Military Sports Centre Dukla Banská Bystrica. Conditioning coach Maroš Bajčičák joined our professional team that year, too.

Even though I was really successful in many junior championships I have not won a medal yet. My best result was definitely the fourth position in the individual race. As a junior athlete I won two gold medals at the Roller Ski World Cup. My representation of the Matej Bel University at the Winter Universiade was a success too – I returned home with a complete medal collection. In 2012 I participated at my very first World Championships. Since then I have been a full fledged member of Slovak national woman team. And of course that I did not miss the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi (2014) and neither those in Pyeongchang (2018).

Lately I have become a world champion in roller skiing but there are many other great achievements that are worth mentioning, too:

  • 5th place in the individual at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang (2018)
  • 2nd place in the mass start at the World Cup in Tyumen (2018)
  • 5th place in the individual at the World Cup in Ostersunad (2017)
  • 5th place in the pursuit at the World Championships in Kontiolahti (2017)
  • 10th place in the mass start at the World Championships in Hochfilzen (2017)
  • 2nd place in the mass start at the European Championships in Tyumen (2016)

I am 25 years old and I already rank among the female biathlon elite. After the successful Olympic season my ambitions are really high. I do believe that I can win the medal at the World Championships. Another bold ambition I got is to make it among the top 10 best ranked professional biathletes in the World Cup classification. Winter Olympics in Beijing (2022) should become the key moment of my entire career as I will do my very best to win the medal.
